Good to know about the siri control too.  I connect the Z-wave to Elk with the RZCOP.  I use the RZCPG(primary controller) remote to add the Zwave device to the network and then update the RZCPG as a second controller.  I then add it to the Elk lighting module via Elk RP.  It then is available to me thru the Elk driver in Elve.  Most rules and automation is done through Elk M1 and Elve is just for front end use.

I thought about upgrading to the ViziaRf plus model but not yet clear if I would need a plus RZCOP and RZCPG.  I think the only advantage for ViziaRf plus is two way communication which with voice control may not be as important.  When controlling from a tablet it can become annoying or confusing that lights don't always show current state.

I am following another forum where someone is developing a squeezeserver skill I believe.  I am also trying to figure out a way to get Amazon Music to play through my whole house audio.

Cheers
Mike

Hi Mike.
Happy new year mate. I also tried using IFTTT last year and you are correct it works but is not very scalable.
I ended up using the HA bridge and have been using it for some time running on a raspberry pi.
It works great and I also run a HomeKit bridge and exposed the Hue Bridge to it as a Phillips Hue hub and now Siri can also control the Elve stuff.
https://github.com/bwssytems/ha-bridge/issues/159

I noticed you are using Zwave for the Lighting. I am currently using X-10 and am looking to move away from it. How are you connecting Zwave to the M1? or are you controlling it from Elve directly?
Cheers.
Peadar.

Well I made even more progress.  I was able to find a program (ha bridge) that emulates a Philips Hue system.  I am using this bridge to have the echo talk directly to my elve system.  So far I am able to control lights, tv and music.

Echo controls...Zwave LightsHA Bridge & Elve - Elk Driver
MultiRoom AudioHA Bridge & Elve - Monoamp Driver (I built it but haven't released it)
SageTvAlexa SageTv Skill (thanks to tmiranda on SageTv forum)
Whats next...Logitech Media ServerElve - Logitech  Driver
HVACProbably HA Bridge & Elve - Elk Driver

Cheers

An analysis of the code and various open source licenses would need to take place to ensure there are not conflicts with open source licenses.

Additionally I think a few drivers which require 3rd party installations would need to be removed... possibly just JR Media Center  Active Home SDK.

Modifications might also be needed to get it to compile in more recent versions of visual studio and .net libraries.

Releasing the source could also expose any "potential" security vulnerabilities.

So I was able to get this to work thru IFTTT.  Of course it is not very scaleable since I don't see a way to add any variables.  At least I can hard code a few basic commands and scene triggers for the time being.  I will begin research into building an Alexa Skill or worst case buying maybe a smart hub to connect.

Cheers

General Discussion / Alexa and or IFTTT Integration

Hey all,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I was trying to figue out a way to have Alexa control some of my home automation.  I am using an ELK M1 along with the Elve software.  I am looking into writing a skill in Alexa to gain control but not sure I have the knowledge for it.  In the meantime, I was wondering if I could send an input to IFTTT via Alexa then have IFTTT send a web request to Elve.  So in IFTTT, I set up a Maker channel to make a web request.  I believe I need to pass thru login credentials.  Is anyone else doing something similiar or can point me in a direction?

Here is the configuration page for Maker in IFTTT:

It states that this action will make a web request to a publicly accessible URL.

URL (I entered the following with my server name in place of 'masterserver')
http://masterserver:33900/RunScript/false/security.TurnOffLight(5);

Method (I tried both Post and Put methods)
Get, Post, Put, Head, Delete, Patch, Options

Content Type (I tried all 3)
application/json
application/x-www-form-urlencoded
text/plain

Body (I always left blank)

John,

With all due respect, what is there to discuss? Release the code to the community and it will continue to live like evey other open source project. GitHub.com!

All,

As you are aware, development on the Elve platform has been in hibernation for some time due to competing priorities. I am flattered by the emails I still receive about moving development forward, open sourcing and other product venture ideas. As honored as I am, my availability just doesn't permit me to be as effective as I would like in even coordinating an effort to take the next steps.

I'm certainly open to discussion on a collaborative effort on moving to next steps but I would need to take a mostly hands off approach.

Thanks so much for your support!

Hi John,

John,

Thanks for posting an update.  I know there are still a few of us that continue to use Elve and would be happy to help in any way that we can.  If you have some idea on what you would like the next steps to be, please let us know. I'm pretty sure someone here can help with the coordination and execution of those steps.

I too, have had changes in priorities in recent years and no longer have as much time to devote to HA development activities, however, Elve has continued to work flawlessly and thus, I'll keep using for as long as possible.

Bob

All, I kept the Apple Developer account operational for some time after version 2 was released and made free. A year or so later I let the Apple Developer account lapse since I am no longer developing on the platform and therefore Apple removed from the App Store. I am sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

I'll be posting a followup in another post shortly.
