Insteon Devices
« on: July 17, 2010, 01:17:04 pm »
I have setup the Insteon device and I added all my devices to the device list with a name and address. I see that there is a device method called "Turn on light by Name" in the Device Methods tab but when I try to create a rule that method is not available. Why is that?

Thanks,
Eric

It was not added for fear of too many support issues due to misspelled light names and since the Turn On Light action already allows you to choose a light by it's name without typing the name.

Where do I find the "Turn On Light" action?

In the action list editor, select:

Add Action > Control Device > Insteon > Turn on light

You may see a different name then "Insteon" in the menu depending on the display name you entered in the device setup.

You will see a new line in the action list, select the blue underlined text to change the light. A new window will open with a tab called "Light Names". Choose the appropriate light name from the list and click OK.

I don't have a "Turn On Light" in that list.

There are:
Turn On All Lights
Turn On Group
Turn On Light by Address
Turn On Light by Device ID

By a process of elimination I found it. It was the Turin on light by device id.

Yes, sorry that's it. The insteon driver let's you identify the device a couple different ways so we altered the display name a little.
