HAI Properties takes over a minute
« on: March 21, 2011, 03:27:17 pm »
Not sure if this is just on my end, maybe someone else with an Omni Pro can chime in.
It literally takes over a minute, close to two, for the properties to show up after clicking on the driver in the automation devices page.
Is this normal?

It's normal when the driver first starts up (which is a limitation of the .NET SDK provided by HAI) and is specified in the driver description:

Quote
When this driver makes a connection to the hardware on startup (and after a disconnect), it retrieves the current state information from the Omni Pro II unit which can take some time. During this startup procedure the driver will be unavailable for use and may cause the Elve Management Studio user interface to freeze for about 30 seconds if the device is selected.

In contrast the ELK M1 driver takes about 4 seconds to retrieve all the data when using a TCP connection. I'm not sure what is going on internally in the SDK that HAI developed but it does take a while to get the initial data.
