Touch Screen WebCam Tutorial

RSS
This tutorial explains how to view your captured images on a touch screen.

The gist is that we'll add a web browser control to a touch screen that loads a web page displaying the image saved from a web cam or other imaging device.

1. Ensure your images are saved to a web site directory.

If you are using the Scanner And Camera Driver to save the images, edit it's DestinationPath parameter using the Elve Management Studio application.

If you installed the built in web server, the web site directory will be located on the server that you installed the built in web server.

  • In Microsoft Windows Vista this will usually be:
    C:\ProgramData\Codecore Technologies\Elve\WebSite\

  • In Microsoft Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000, and Windows XP this will usually be:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Codecore Technologies\Elve\WebSite

You can choose any file name, but for this tutorial I'll call it WebCamImage.jpg. If your file has a different name, update the the html in the next step with your file name.

2. Create a web page that displays your image.

Save the following html text to a file called WebCamImage.html in the Common Program Data Folder's WebSite directory.

<html>
  <body>
    <img src="WebCamImage.jpg">
  </body>
</html>

3. Add a web browser control to a touch screen.

Using the Touch Screen Builder application, add a Web Browser control and edit its properties.

a.) Set the Address property to the url of the html page from step 2. If your touchscreen will only be used within your intranet (such as in your home), the url will be something like:

http://joesmachine/WebCamImage.html

b.) Set the auto refresh rate to how often the web browser should refresh the picture.
